About Us

Founded in 1957, Young Israel of New Rochelle is a vibrant and growing Modern Orthodox synagogue with over 375 member families located in Westchester County, 30 minutes north of New York City. New Rochelle offers kosher eateries and shopping alternatives, a kollel, and several yeshivah day schools within a 20-minute commute. There is an array of living options, ranging from apartments, starter houses and larger family homes.

More than just a synagogue, YINR is a community seeking to inspire in its members an abiding commitment to halacha, mitzvot and Torah learning. We are committed to Medinat Yisrael and Israel advocacy, and other social action causes.

YINR offers four daily Shacharit minyanim, a Mincha/Maariv, and two late Maariv options. There are two regular Shabbat minyanimHashkama and the Main Minyan – as well as an intermittent Sephardi minyan. We have two daily daf yomi shiurim along with a variety of other ongoing shiurim offered by our rabbis and other teachers, and lectures and scholar-in-residence programming. Our community boasts a beautiful state-of-the-art mikvah and a separate kalim mikvah.

The congregation is diverse, comprised of different age groups and educational and religious backgrounds. The resident Youth Directors run an active Youth Department, including a Shabbat Teen Minyan and a variety of programs for over 500 children. At the same time, we have a dynamic Ruach program designed for adults and consisting of lectures, trips, and discussions on current events, literature and film. We also offer a complement of social programming for our members, associated with holidays and other occasions. There is a YINR Chevra Kadisha, as well as a thriving Women’s League that plays a vital role in our community, including running our Hospitality, Shiva, and Chesed Committees.

Rabbi Reuven Fink has been our leader for over 35 years and has been instrumental in the community’s expansion and success. Rabbi Chaim Axelrod joined YINR as our first Assistant Rabbi in 2016.
